I keep coming back to this. Thank you for making it. I love living in the future.

Glad you like it!. One of the reasons I love vaporwave is that it uses fragments of our recent past to construct a vision of the future.

After listening to an album or two, I’d like to humbly contribute this suggestion to the canon.

The hyperobject stuff is VERY much my shit when it comes to Dark Ambient. These are fantastic suggestions! Soundtracks for wandering through JG Ballard apocalypses having your mind crushed under the weight of the transformed landscape.

I recommend Aethek and Lustmord for more!

I’ll check those artists out!

Since you posted this comment, I’ve been thinking a lot about “hyperobject” as a category that cuts across mediums: any art that seems like you’re approaching an object that grows the closer you get should be classified as such.

For example, Kafka’s The Trial: the more his legal case overtakes his life, the larger and more convoluted the legal apparatus seems. It provokes the same emotions as a Hallmark ‘87 album.

Similar to the best examples of “Lovecraftian” art are striving for. It’s not just tentacles, it’s a lifestyle!

Well done with the subgenres overall haha. The big thing from vaporwave at the time was the deanthropocizing from all the talks I used to have- emphasizing not the artist, but the movement (part of why we would all constantly use different names). Maybe that shot some artists in the foot, honestly- but its my favorite part of the genre as a whole

The anonymity in the vaporwave scene keeps the focus on the music and aesthetics instead of the musicians. This prevented individual vaporwave artists from taking off in the mainstream, but kept a certain artistic purity to the genre that I find refreshing.

Thanks for the nice shoutout. Great picks – don’t know all of them, but will definitely check them out!

Apparently, I can't edit my previous comment. But I worked though your selected tracks. There all pretty great, but my favorite was The Malygris Suite's Tower in the Heart (which probably doesn't surprise you).

Also, you 100% should give Clark Ashton Smith a shot. In particular, I'd actually suggest his audio books (especially those narrated by Reg Green). They don't disappoint, and are easy to listen to. Isle of the Torturers is a good one to start with.

I’ll have to listen to those audiobooks on my next road trip. Thanks for the recommendation!

Dude, this is so good. It's going to take me a while to work though everything you have here, but I'm really dogging it so far.
